First Time Getting Waxed? Here’s How to Get Ready
So, you’ve booked your wax—now what? Whether it’s your first time or just your first time at WaxPot, knowing how to prep properly can make your experience a lot smoother (literally). A little preparation helps reduce discomfort, prevent irritation, and get the best results.
At WaxPot London, we want you to feel comfortable and confident before your appointment. Here’s everything you need to know to walk in feeling ready and walk out feeling smooth.
1. Let Your Hair Grow (But Not Too Much!)
Your hair should be about a quarter of an inch long, which is roughly the size of a grain of rice. If it is too short, the wax might not grip properly. If it is too long, it can make the process more uncomfortable. If you usually shave, try to let the hair grow for at least two weeks before your appointment.
Not sure if it’s the right length? If you can pinch the hair between your fingers, you should be good to go.
2. Exfoliate the Day Before
A little exfoliation can go a long way in making your wax more effective. Gently exfoliate the area 24 hours before your appointment using a soft scrub, exfoliating mitt, or dry brush. This helps remove dead skin cells so the wax can grip the hair better.
Just be gentle—no harsh scrubbing. Your skin needs to be in good shape before your wax.
3. Keep Your Skin Clean and Free of Products
On the day of your wax, skip the body lotion, oils, or deodorant on the area being treated. These can create a barrier and make it harder for the wax to do its job.
If you’re coming straight from work or the gym, don’t worry. We can give you a cleansing wipe before your wax.
4. Skip the Caffeine and Alcohol
We know—this one is tough. But caffeine and alcohol can make your skin more sensitive, which means your wax might feel more uncomfortable than it needs to. If you can, hold off on that coffee or glass of wine until after your appointment.
5. Wear Something Comfortable
Your skin might be a little sensitive after your wax, so loose, breathable clothing is your best friend. Tight jeans or leggings can rub against freshly waxed skin, causing irritation. If you're getting a bikini wax, opt for comfy cotton underwear instead of anything tight or lacy.
6. Plan Around Your Schedule
Try not to book your wax right before something that involves sweating, swimming, or sun exposure. Your skin needs a little time to recover, so it’s best to avoid the gym, pool, sauna, or beach for at least 24 hours after waxing.
If you have a big event coming up, like a holiday or wedding, book your wax at least two to three days before so your skin has time to settle.
7. Let Us Know About Any Skin Concerns
If you have sensitive skin, allergies, or are on any medications that might affect your skin (like acne treatments or retinol), let us know before your appointment. We can recommend the best approach for you.
