What to Do After a Wax - A Guide to Waxing Aftercare

Just Had a Wax? Here’s How to Look After Your Skin

So, you’ve just had a wax. Now what? Whether it’s your first time or you’re a waxing pro, taking care of your skin after your appointment is just as important as the wax itself. The good news? It’s super easy if you follow a few simple steps.

At WaxPot London, we’re all about making waxing a smooth experience, literally. Here’s everything you need to know about aftercare to keep your skin happy, calm and irritation-free.

1. Don’t Touch! (We Know It’s Tempting)

Freshly waxed skin means open pores. And open pores are more prone to bacteria. That means hands off for at least a few hours. No touching, scratching or picking at the area. Your skin will thank you.

2. Skip the Gym and Hot Showers (Just for a Bit!)

After a wax, your skin needs a little breathing room, so avoid anything that makes you overheat or sweat for the next 24 to 48 hours. That means:
🚿 No hot showers or baths (lukewarm is fine)
💦 No saunas, steam rooms or swimming pools
🏋️ No intense workouts (the gym can wait)
🌞 No direct sun or tanning beds

Basically, keep things cool and chill for a day or two.

3. Wear Your Comfiest Clothes

Now is not the time for tight jeans or synthetic fabrics. Your skin is more sensitive than usual, so go for loose, breathable clothing like cotton underwear, flowy dresses, joggers or oversized tees. Anything that lets your skin breathe and avoids friction is a win.

4. Exfoliate… But Not Yet!

Exfoliating is great for preventing ingrown hairs, but give it 48 hours before you start. After that, a gentle scrub, exfoliating mitt or dry brush a couple of times a week will keep your skin smooth and bump-free.

5. Moisturise, But Keep It Simple

Your skin needs hydration after a wax, but not heavy, perfumed or oily products that can clog pores. Instead, go for fragrance-free lotion, aloe vera gel or a lightweight moisturiser to keep your skin soft and happy.

6. Ditch the Harsh Stuff for a Few Days

For the first couple of days, avoid anything too intense, including:
🚫 Perfumed lotions, body sprays or deodorants on waxed areas
🚫 Scrubs, retinol or acids (AHA/BHA)
🚫 Chlorine (swimming pools are off-limits for now)

Basically, be kind to your skin. It’s been through enough.

7. No Shaving Between Waxes (Seriously, Don’t Do It)

We get it. Sometimes you just want to grab a razor and tidy things up. But shaving between waxes messes with the hair growth cycle, making your next wax less effective and possibly more painful. Let your hair grow to at least a quarter of an inch before your next session for the best results.

8. Book Your Next Wax Before You Forget

If you want consistently smooth skin, regular waxing is the way to go. Most people come in every four to six weeks, depending on hair growth. Best tip? Book your next appointment now so you don’t forget.
